Introduction

Every VE Commodore has a status within Engineering Mode which shows the remaining ‘life’ of the oil in your engine. This is calculated based on your driving style and kilometres travelled, not oil quality sensors. It is displayed as a percentage remaining value. This quick guide will show you how to reset this value back to 100%.

Difficulty Rating

Easy

Tools/Parts Required

None

Step 1

Enter Engineering Mode. To do this, follow our guide on Accessing Engineering Mode. Please note; do not start the engine. Simply turn it to the ‘ON’ position.

Step 2

Navigate to ‘Engine Oil Life’. You will find that most vehicles will be on 0% as this value is rarely reset during scheduled services.

Step 3

To reset this value to 100%, simply depress the accelerator pedal to the floor three times at a steady pace.

Step 4

After a few seconds the value should reset to 100%. If this does not occur, attempt Step 3 again.

The process is now complete. To exit Engineering Mode, press trip button.

Hi – I’ve tried this procedure on my VE MY9.5 Calais V Wagon and the oil life percentage won’t reset? Any ideas?

Not sure, sorry Dan. This is the only known method.

    – Switch to ignition (do not start car)
    – Depress the accelerator 3 times quickly
    – Switch off and remove key
    – Re fit key
    – Start engineering mode.
    – Should read 99% oil life.
