Difficulty Rating

Moderate

Tools/Parts Required

  • Spanner Set
  • Socket Set

Step 1

Remove the front wheel and familiarise yourself with the brake caliper. The caliper is easy to remove, held in place by two bolts.

Step 2

Loosen the top bolt as pictured. Hold the caliper slide with a spanner and loosen the bolt using an appropriate socket set.

Step 3

Remove the lower bolt on the caliper in a similar manner.

Step 4

The caliper is now loose. Gently slide it towards the rear of the vehicle, and it should come free as pictured. Place the caliper on top of the rotor to support it.

Step 5

To remove the brake pads simply pry them away from the rotor. If you’re changing brake pads you will need to compress the caliper pistons using a clamp or similar as the new pads will be considerably thicker.

Step 6

If required, you can remove the caliper shims by prying them out of the caliper bracket. These often need a clean or replacement during a brake pad change.

Step 7

Simply reverse the process to reinstall the brake caliper.
