KAP Industries Fire Extinguisher Bracket Install

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to install a KAP Industries Fire Extinguisher Bracket in a MK7 Golf. This install takes approximately five minutes, and is completely reversible.

Parts and Tools Required

Step 1

Mount your fire extinguisher to the KAP Industries bracket using the supplied bolts.

You can mount the extinguisher anywhere along bracket using the various mounting holes.

Step 2

Using the M10 Triple Square Bit, carefully remove both front seat bolts.

Step 3

Place the bracket over the rail, and align the bolt holes.

Step 4

Re-install the bolts, and gently tighten to manufacturers specifications.

Step 5

Done! It’s that simple!

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to change the key battery in your MQB Vehicle. This includes the MK7 Golf, MK2 Tiguan, and a variety of other models. A very quick an easy process, which can be required quite frequently depending on usage.

Parts and Tools Required

  • Trim Removal Tool
  • Flathead Screwdiver
  • CR 2025 Battery

Step 1

Flip the key open, then using a plastic trim removal tool, pry upwards to pop the cover off.

Step 2

With the case open, use the small flathead screwdriver to pop the battery out.

Insert the new battery with the correct orientation.

Step 3

Replace the cover and gently clip it back into position.

MK7 Golf Sill Panel Trim Removal

MK7 Gold Sill Panel Trim Removal

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to remove the front and rear sill trims on a MK7 Golf. These typically need to be removed when running wiring for additional accessories, or a sound system. The process is pretty simple, but care needs to be taken to not break or damage trims.

Parts and Tools Required

  • Trim Removal Tools

Step 1

To begin, you will need to remove the rear seat base. Follow our tutorial here.

Once the seat has been removed, release the clip as circled by pushing upwards with your trim removal tool.

Step 2

Using your hands and trim removal tool, seperate the sill panel trim from the side trim. Pull upwards in the direction shown.

Step 3

We now need to unclip the sill trim from the B-Pillar trim. Push the trim removal tool into the gap below the join, and the clip will release.

Step 4

Continue working along the B-Pillar trim, and release the two clips in the middle as indicated. Push the trim towards the seat, as shown by the arrows.

Step 5

Move to the front of the vehicle, and perform the same process. Slide the trim tool into the gap and push towards the seat.

The entire B-Pillar trim will now be disconnected.

Step 6

Using your fingers and a trim removal tool, lift the front edge of the sill panel trim and pull upwards.

Step 7

Work you way along the trim, gently pulling upwards to release the metal clips that attach to the sill rail. Some force is required.

Perform the same action on the rear section of the trim. The entire trim should now be loose from the vehicle, and as you’ll notice it is very long.

Step 8

Before completely removing the trim, you will need to disconnect the LED trim lighting (if fitted) which is connected by a long ribbon cable. There is a connector at the B-Pillar base which needs to be gently disconnected.

At the base of the seatbelt you will find a small slit in the trim, once unclipped you can slide the seatbelt out from the trim.

The trim is now completely free, and can be removed through the rear door.

Step 9

To remove the kick panel, simply pull towards the seat, using the assistance of a trim removal tool to separate the top clip near the glovebox, and a lower clip in the middle.

End Result – Rear

This is the rear footwell, with the sill trim removed.

MK7 Golf Glovebox Headunit Removal

Introduction

If you’re upgrading your MIB1 or MIB2 Headunit, or wiring for a sound system / subwoofer, you’ll probably need to remove the MIB Headunit ‘Brain’ which is located in the glovebox.

Parts and Tools Required

  • Headunit Removal Tools (Generic)

Step 1

This process is very simple with the correct headunit removal tools. The tools are somewhat generic and can be found online to suit Volkswagen vehicles.

Simply insert both tools into the slot on either side of the unit, and they will lock into position and release the retaining clips.

Using the tools, you can then pull the headunit out of position with a firm pull.

Step 2

Gently slide the headunit out, being mindful of the wiring looms. The small antenna connections unplug with ease, however the large plug as pictured has a special hinge mechanism.

In the direction of the arrows, pull up the hinge, which will release the plug. Then gently slide the plug out.

MK7 Golf Rear Seat Base Removal

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to remove the rear seat base of your MK7 Golf (4-Door). Useful for cleaning, or running wires through to the boot of your vehicle.

Parts and Tools Required

  • None

Step 1

First, we need to remove the ISOFIX mounting trim. This needs to be rotated in an arc motion to un-clip and slide out.

By pushing firmly on the area marked by the star, the trim should unclip. You can then continue to push downwards, pivoting the trim out.

Step 2

Remove all four ISOFIX mounting point trims.

Step 3

Using your hands, firmly pull the seat base upwards from the front. Do this to both sides to release the clips.

Step 4

Once released, you can easily see the clip mechanism. You can now remove the seat base from the vehicle. You may need to push the base backwards slightly, to unhook the base at the rear.

MK7 Golf Clutch Delay Valve Removal

MK7 Golf Clutch Delay Valve

Introduction

Some would call the removal of your clutch delay valve as the ‘Ultimate’ modification for any manual vehicle. It restores the direct feel many manual owners would be used to, and allows you to change gears with maximum accuracy.

What is a Clutch Delay Valve?
A delay valve is an inline restrictor which blocks you from hard launches and rapid gear changes. It delays and slows the pressure being applied to the clutch plate, thereby protecting the gearbox but increasing wear on the clutch. Unfortunately this also creates a poor driver experiance and unpredicatble clutch movements.

Parts and Tools Required

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Torx Set
  • DOT4 Brake Fluid
  • Brake Bleeder Kit

Step 1

For this task the air intake need to be removed. To remove the intake, unscrew as shown and release the clamp connected to the piping.

Step 2

Next, remove the screws shown by the red arrows. The air intake can then be removed.

Pull firmly upwards on the filter housing, which will release the rubber grommets. One is circled in green for reference. Once disengaged, wriggle the whole unit out of the vehicle.

Step 3

We’ll now remove the bleeder block, which also houses the delay valve. Place a cloth under the clutch line and release both clips attached to the bleeder.

Once the clutch line is disconnect it will start to rapidly drip. You can connect your brake bleeder kit to the clutch line to ‘block’ the line and prevent dripping.

Step 4

With the T-Piece removed from the vehicle you can see the clutch delay valve down the middle. This yellow piece is what we will remove.

Step 5

To remove the delay valve, release the centre clip and pull the bleeder valve out. You can then poke the clutch delay piece from the side, and it will fall out through the centre hole.

Step 6

We’ve now reassembled the clutch bleeder unit, ready for installation. You can also see the removed valve in this picture.

Step 7

Reinstall the bleeder block back into the vehicle. We now need to bleed the clutch line.

Step 8

Connect a brake bleeder kit and commence the bleeding process. This is done as follows:

  1. Open the brake fluid reservoir and ensure the fluid is at the MAX line.
  2. Crack open the bleeder valve 1/8th of a turn.
  3. With the assistance of a friend, depress the clutch pedal whilst watching the fluid flow into the bleeder kit. You will bubbles in the fluid.
  4. Close the bleeder valve.
  5. With your hand, pull up the clutch pedal which would have become ‘stuck’ on the firewall.
  6. Top up the fluid reservoir, back to the MAX line.
  7. Repeat these steps until no more bubbles are flowing out of the bleeder valve.

Step 9

The installation is now complete. If at any stage your clutch feels odd, or becomes stuck, bleed the fluid again as there is likely bubbles in the system.

MK7 Golf Braided Clutch Line Upgrade

MK7 Clutch Line

Introduction

This guide will show you how to upgrade your clutch line on a MK7 Golf with a manual transmission. Improve clutch feel with this easy modification, however get your paper towel as this job can get messy!

Parts and Tools Required

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Torx Set
  • DOT4 Brake Fluid
  • Braided Clutch Line
  • Brake Bleeder Kit

Step 1

For this task the battery and air intake need to be removed. To remove the intake, unscrew as shown and release the clamp connected to the piping.

Step 2

Next, remove the screws shown by the red arrows. The air intake can then be removed.

Pull firmly upwards on the filter housing, which will release the rubber grommets. One is circled in green for reference. Once disengaged, wriggle the whole unit out of the vehicle.

Step 3

Now the battery and battery tray need to be removed. First, disconnect the negative and positive battery terminals.

Step 4

Remove this bolt and release the battery holder.

Step 5

Slide the battery towards the front of the car and lift out of the vehicle.

Step 6

Unbolt the battery tray. It is held in place with four bolts as shown.

Step 7

Now you can see the clutch line. First we will disconnect the end closest to the firewall.

Step 8

Using a flathead screwdriver, release the metal clip holding the clutch line in place. It simply lifts up, however does not need to be completely removed.

You can now pull out the clutch line and connect the braided line in place.

Take Note: Once the clutch line is disconnected, it will start to drip. Prepare yourself with a substantial number of cloths and a container to catch the fluid.

Step 9

Place another cloth under the other end of the clutch line and release the clip attached to the bleeder. Remove the OEM clutch line and connect the braided line.

If you can complete this in one swift movement you will reduce the amount of brake fluid spillage.

Step 10

Connect a brake bleeder kit and commence the bleeding process. This is done as follows:

  1. Open the brake fluid reservoir and ensure the fluid is at the MAX line.
  2. Crack open the bleeder valve 1/8th of a turn.
  3. With the assistance of a friend, depress the clutch pedal whilst watching the fluid flow into the bleeder kit. You will bubbles in the fluid.
  4. Close the bleeder valve.

XDS Differential Lock Adjustment
XDS is an electronic differential lock, and lets you grip the road when cornering fast. It improves responses to ensure an even safer drive. EA888 / MK7 Golf Engine Oil Change

EA888 / MK7 Golf Oil Change

Introduction

This guide will show you how to perform an oil change on the 2.0L EA888 Engine. This engine can be found in many different models, including the 8V Audi S3, MK3 Skoda Superb, MK3 Skoda Octavia, MK7 Golf GTI / R and more.

Our demonstration vehicle is a MK7 Golf R.

Parts and Tools Required

  • 32mm Socket
  • Torque Wrench
  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Genuine Oil Filter – 06L115562
  • Genuine Sump Plug – 06L103801
  • 5W-30/40 Oil with the VW 504.00 Approval – 5.7 Litres

Step 1

Raise the car on a hoist, trolley jack, or ramps for easy access to the sump plug at a later stage.

First we will change the oil filter. Remove the engine cover and locate the oil filter housing.

Step 2

Using a 32mm socket, loosen and remove the filter housing. The housing tends to drip oil, so keep paper towel nearby.

Step 3

Remove the oil filter from the housing by pulling firmly outwards.

Step 4

Insert the new oil filter into the housing and it will click into place. Your oil filter purchased from AutoInstruct will also include a new rubber O-Ring, which also needs to be changed.

Please Note

Sometimes the oil flow valve will also lift outwards with the filter housing. It can be re-inserted into either the engine or housing before reinstalling. There are a few variants of this part, and yours may look slightly different.

Step 5

Reinstall the oil filter housing and torque to spec. You will find the torque specification written on the filter housing.

Step 6

We will now drain the engine oil. Remove the filler cap and place aside. This will allow the oil to drain faster.

Step 7

Locate the sump plug under the engine, and place your oil pan in position. Using a medium sized flathead screwdriver, insert into the slit and turn anti-clockwise to remove.

Step 8

The oil will now drain into the pan.

Step 9

Once the oil has drained, install a new sump plug. Do this gently to ensure it is not cross threaded. When tight it will ‘click’ into position, do not turn it any further. It will not tighten like a traditional sump bolt.

Step 10

We will now fill the engine with approximately 5.7 Litres of oil. When filling the final amounts, regularly check the dipstick to ensure you are not overfilling the engine.

Once filled to the required amount as per the dipstick, close the oil cap and start the car, idling for one minute. This will flow the oil around the engine and through the filter. After switching the engine off, wait 5 minutes and check the oil level again, ensuring you are within the acceptable range of the dipstick. Top up if necessary.

 

034Motorsport Dogbone Mount Installation MK7 / 8V

034 Dogbone Insert VW MK7 Audi S3

Introduction

Have you recently purchased a 034Motorsport Dogbone Insert from AutoInstruct? Sweet! In this guide we’ll show you how to install the insert.

The 034Motorsport dogbone insert is machined from billet aluminium, and is designed to limit transmission and engine movement by filling voids within the factory dogbone mount. This is done without impacting on noise, harshness or vibration within the cabin.

Parts and Tools Required

Step 1

Raise the car on a hoist, trolley jack, or ramps to gain access to the underside of the engine. Take a look underneath and locate the dogbone mount as pictured.

Step 2

Using the 21mm socket and a breaker bar / impact driver / socket set, completely remove the bolt in the centre of the dogbone mount.

Step 3

Slide the 034 insert into the rubber bushing, with the 034 logo facing towards the front of the car.

Insert the bolt and torque to 130nm. That’s it!

MK7 MIB Custom Radio Station Logos

Introduction
Did you know you can upload custom radio station logos onto your MK7 Headunit? We’ll show you how to do it.
Step 1
First you will need to create your own logos. Using an image editor, set up the canvas size as 400 x 240 pixels. With this setup, download the logos from Google for the stations of your choice. Centre the logo and save as .png
Here’s a few examples.
Step 2
Load the .png files onto an SD Card, and insert into your headunit in SD1.
Step 3
Under ‘Radio’ tap the settings icon, then tap on ‘Station Logos’
Step 4
The screen will now show all your saved stations. Simply tap a station, then navigate to the SD Card and select the appropriate image. Do this for each station, and you are done.

This is the final result!
