Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to change the oil and filter in your 1.2 / 1.4 TSI MK7 Golf. This is also applicable to similar vehicles in the Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda family.

Tools/Parts Required

Step 1

Loosen the oil filler cap and remove to allow for easy draining

Step 2

Remove the splash shield as shown. There is a number of screws, bolts and two clips as shown by arrows.

Step 3

Locate the drain bolt on the sump, and drain the engine oil.

Once drained, reinstall the bolt with a new crush washer.

Step 4

Place oil pan under the oil filter and unscrew.

Coat the rubber seal on the new filter with a thin layer of oil and screw into position.

Step 5

Reinstall the splash shield.

Step 6

Fill engine with ~4L of oil, and check the dipstick. Once the oil is in the correct range, start the engine and run briefly to prime the oil filter.

Re-check the dipstick and top up as necessary. Your oil service is now complete.
