Introduction
In this guide we’ll show you how to change the oil in your FN2 Type R Honda Civic. This process is relatively simple with only basic tools required.

- Approx. 4.7L of 5w-40 or similar oil

Step 1
Jack up your vehicle using the correct jacking point (Subframe crossmember) and set it on jack stands. Ensure that your handbrake is on and you have chocked the back wheels to prevent roll back.
Step 2
Locate the oil sump drain bolt on the under side of the engine facing the rear of the car.
Note: If you remove your oil fill cap at this point the draining oil will not “glug”
Step 3
Place your oil pan under the drain bolt on the oil sump.
Use a 17mm socket to remove the oil drain bolt.
(It is ideal to undo the bolt by hand after breaking the seal to prevent dropping the bolt in the oil pan and or getting your tools covered in oil)
Step 4
Let the oil drain into the oil pan. You can lower the vehicle to the ground so that it is sitting flat. This ensures you drain the most of the old oil out as possible.
Step 5
The oil filter on the K20 engine is located on the backside above the drivers side axle.
Using an oil filter wrench (if required) remove the old oil filter and install your new filter.
Note that oil will drain out from the filter itself and the filter hole on the engine.
Once oil has stopped draining from your vehicle jack it back up and carefully reinsert the sump bolt.
Note: Honda specify 39Nm for the drain bolt
Step 6
Lower the vehicle back down and start to fill it up with the correct amount of oil. For the FN2 with the K20Z4 engine it is roughly 4.7 litres of oil.
Once the correct amount has been poured in, run the engine for a few minutes until the car is up to temperature. Then let it sit for a few minutes and check the oil level using the dip stick.
