We’ll show you how to change the oil in your rear differential on a Subaru Impreza WRX! This tutorial suits most Subaru vehicles, as they share the same differential casings and design.

Before starting, ensure your vehicle is level.

Difficulty Rating

Moderate

Tools/Parts Required

  • Differential Oil – 0.8L
  • 13mm Square Drain Socket (Don’t use 1/2″ tools, it will strip the thread)

Step 1

Using the 13mm square socket, open the fill hole (1) before draining the oil. This ensures we won’t be stranded it the thread is seized

Step 2

Open the drain hole (2) and drain the oil. Once drained, reinstall the bolt and tighten.

Step 3

Fill the diff with oil until it overflows back out through the fill hole. Re-insert the bolt and tighten.
