Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to perform an engine oil change on your 3.0L Diesel Toyota Hilux.

Difficulty Rating

Moderate

Tools/Parts Required

  • Oil Filter (Sakura C-1121)
  • Crush Washer
  • Oil Filter Wrench
  • Socket Set
  • 10w-30 Oil (5.5L)
  • Oil Pan
  • Funnel

Step 1

Look under the car and locate the sump plug. It can be found on the back of the engine, facing the rear of the vehicle.

Position the oil pan under the sump plug.

Step 2

Using your socket set, loosen the sump plug and drain the oil into the pan. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil.

Step 3

Once the oil has drained from the sump, reinstall the sump plug with a new crush washer. Hand tighten.

Next we will change the oil filter. It is located on the side of the engine, and is easily visible from the engine bay.

Step 4

Using the oil filter wrench or your hand, grasp the filter and slowly turn anti-clockwise.

As the filter unscrews, a considerable amount of oil will begin to drip down the sides of the filter, so ensure you position the oil pan underneath.

Once removed, lubricate the seal of your new oil filter and fill three quarters with fresh oil. This helps reduce oil starvation. Carefully screw back onto the vehicle, hand tighten.

Step 5

Once the filter has been replaced, prepare to fill the engine with fresh oil. You will need to fill approximately 5.5L, checking the dipstick as the engine is filled.

Once you have filled the oil, close the cap and start the engine, idle for a few minutes. Inspect for leaks under the vehicle.

Turn the engine off, and after a few more minutes check the dipstick level once again as it may have dropped. Top up as required.

You have now completed an oil change on your Toyota Hilux.
