Introduction

Did you know that MK7 Golf vehicles fitted with a Manual transmission feature a Clutch Assist Spring?

Whilst this spring reduces the effort required to push the clutch in, it can cause vagueness in the clutch and reduce precision of your clutch movements. Many performance drivers choose to remove the spring as a result. In this tutorial we will show you how to do it.

Tools/Parts Required

  • Pliers

Step 1

Locate the clutch assist spring, found directly above the clutch pedal.

This is a tension spring, which closes as you push the clutch in, thereby reducing your effort.

Step 2

Grasp the bottom of the spring with pliers and unhook. Now that the spring is loose, use your hand to unhook from the top. The clutch assist spring is now removed.
